Introduction to Phlebotomy

At York College, you will learn proper blood collection techniques, as well as the preparation and proper handling of blood specimens. You will study the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, aseptic techniques and infection control procedures, communication techniques, medical ethics and safety procedures.  This class is taught in a  hands-on supervised laboratory environment using mannequin arms and artificial blood. This course is perfect for anyone looking to supplement their existing skills or other courses related to the health care field.

 

 

This program will also prepare you to take the National Health care Association (NHA) Exam. For full certification, you must successfully complete a clinical component and demonstrate a specified number of live capillary collections and venipunctures.  As York College does not guarantee employment, completion of the clinical component is the responsibility of the student.

 

 

 Course Requirements:

•  A high school diploma or GED is required to take the NHA examination.
