Introduction to Storyboarding

Of the many visual arts disciplines, storytelling or sequential art is easily one of the most directly applied to the modern economy. The reason for this is relatively simple; as consumers we are heavily driven by visual cues and as human beings we relate to our world through narrative. In the marketing world when designing an advertisement the ad team is asked to tell a story. It doesn’t matter that it is about a product and not a person. People need to know the who, what and why of this item so they buy it… and that needs to be conveyed in 20-30 seconds. Whether it’s a poster or booklet, the visual importance is what engages the audience. The course objective is to develop the skills to tell a visual narrative. The application of those skills is open to the student, but the bottom line is, going forward, they will have an entry point into the business of using images to engage consumers and get them to commit to a product whether it is a book, performance, movie, or bar of soap.
